Camp WIlson May 2008
Justin W., Troop Historian
Camp Wilson has only been visited by Troop 112 twice. Wilson, like Willow Creek, is a campout where Troops and patrols compete for the gold. Unlike Willow Creek, the adults are separated from the Scouts, causing the Scouts to depend more on themselves and their Troop.
Our Troop was dropped off a mile outside of camp and hiked in from there. This was similar to what happened at Bruneau earlier this year. After the hike, the camp was set up. Everyone then attended an opening campfire where there were skits and songs. The next morning, everyone began the stations. There were all kinds of stations from fire building to farmers orienteering (aka knots). There was even an obstacle course.
There is also a competition specially made for the Senior Patrol Leader. The SPL must make a shelter, a fire pit, and answer questions given to him on a piece of paper.
At the end of the day, all the Troops gathered for awards. Our Troop was awarded 2nd place for Overall Troop, 1st place for Overall Patrol, 1st in first aid and 3rd for our brilliant SPL. Our Troop was also given for the second year in a row a leadership award which came with $200 for supplies.
Before we went to bed, the Order of the Arrow hosted an Honor Trail. An Honor Trail redefines each of the twelve parts of the Scout Law.
On Sunday all the patrols were given a Sunday sermon and a fantasic barbeque that is nearly unmatchable.
